De Bloggende terras-tijger at ‘De Lichtfabriek – Gouda’
De Lichtfabriek in Gouda opened her doors just a few weeks ago. It is established in an old factory building. The big windows and the overall setting are great looking but there are also a few setbacks. The sound level is very high, due to the high ceiling and the lack of any soft materials. Another nuisance is the fact that the ‘inner level’ of tables is placed so low that you can look under the tables at the upper level… The last point of critique is the lack of a secured vestibule. You have to drop your coat over the back of your chair.
All these points are relatively easy to solve so perhaps you don’t notice them if you visit ‘De Lichtfabriek’. I certainly hope so because the dinner was very good. I ordered a medium rare Tournedos, my standard order when visiting a new restaurant, and the quality was as advertised. A medium rare steak should be warm through the middle with a hint of red. Most of the center of the steak should be pink. The sides should be well browned, the top and bottom caramelized to a dark brown color with good grill marks.
The desert was something special. In dutch: een bloempotje met aarde. Chocolate mousse with Oreo crum and whipped cream. A great combi.
All in all I can certainly recommend ‘De Lichtfabriek’ if you can live with the disadvantages. It is an enrichment for Gouda.
Nice!
